(back to music) Mary’s newalbum released on Mary Mac records, 'Life aint Like Hollywood' is Mary’s second solo album. It is a collection of nine songs, with eight originally composed by Mary. The songs are in a jazz pop genre, with the presence of subtle folk undertones bubbling under the surface.
Mary’s musical lean lies in jazz, country and folk and she is a big fan of Joni Mitchell, Rickie Lee Jones, John Martyn and Nick Drake who are all well known to encompass those genres.
The song and the title of Mary Macs new album “Life aint like Hollywood’ is a dig at the monotony and traditional roles of domesticated life. The album contains contrasting and varied subject matter. You can hear Mary’s sense of humour in ‘Throwing all my rags away’ and her love of animals surfaces in the lyrics of ‘Darling deer’.
Musicians on the album are: Kevin Murray on guitar, Brian Kellock on piano, Ronnie Rae on double bass, Ian Stoddard on drums, Avril Evans on piano , Ailsa McInroy on electric bass, Andy James on drums.
